The Saint Thomas More Academy SGA is a member of the National Associations of Student Councils

STMA’s Student Government Association is a democratically elected group that serves to represent the student voice on matters of student affairs. It seeks to represent the interest of all students.

SGA officers are leaders who will serve as positive and responsible role models and act as ambassadors for the school in the larger community. Their focus will be set on instituting positive changes in the school. These students understand that what is popular may not always be right, and seek to consistently uphold the Catholic values of STMA. Their vision will extend beyond current issues to include consideration for future students and traditions at STMA.

A main function of the SGA is to create, provide, and assess social activities, educational programs, and service projects for the student body. Officers understand that the SGA extends the academic experience for STMA students.

A second main function of the SGA is to develop effective communication among students, as well as with faculty, parents, other schools, and the surrounding community.

SGA Officer Responsibilities

All SGA officers are expected to represent the student body at school functions both on and off campus. They must attend SGA meetings, leadership development conferences, and school events.

The SGA is responsible for planning a variety of social events for STMA students including:

  • Freshman Orientation
  • Frosh Social
  • Homecoming week and Homecoming dance
  • Bobbie Bowl
  • Movie nights
  • Catholic Schools Week
  • Junior-Senior Prom
  • Senior picnic
  • Other class activities and trips

Additionally, they are responsible for scheduling guest speakers and co-curricular educational opportunities for students and families. They must raise funds for such events and communicate school activities to the student body.
