St. Thomas More Preparatory senior, William R. Hanley, the son of Joseph and Frances Hanley of Lewes, Delaware, plans to attend the U.S. Naval Academy at Annapolis, Maryland after graduation on May 31. The Naval Academy was Hanley's first choice after being accepted to all three service academies, which include the U.S. Military Academy at West Point in New York, and the U.S. Air Force Academy in Colorado Springs, Colorado.

Service is not taken lightly, as far as Hanley is concerned. “In the first line of the U.S. Naval Academy’s mission statement, they stress the significance of moral development, and that’s very important to me,” Hanley stated, “In fact, the academy represents the standards that I think every individual should strive for: honor, integrity, and respect. The bottom line for me is that we live in a great country where we sometimes take things for granted. The Naval Academy offers me the chance to give something back to my country.” Hanley plans to pursue a medical career as a naval officer. |
