Admission Requirements

Saint Thomas More Preparatory accepts students to the incoming ninth grade class who are currently enrolled in or have completed an accredited eighth grade program. A placement test, which all incoming freshmen are required to take, is given the first Saturday in December. Scores from this test, in combination with teacher recommendations and previous report cards, help our faculty to design a course of study that will challenge each student to work to his or her potential. Acceptance to Saint Thomas More is always a contingent upon successful completion of the eighth grade.

Transfer students in good standing at other high schools will be admitted as space allows.

Application and Information

Applications for admission, along with a $50 application fee and all other required materials, should be submitted no later than November 30th for incoming freshman. Later applications will be accepted as space allows. In addition to the application fee, a new student registration fee of $250 is required at the time of course selection.

Placement Test

Saint Thomas More Preparatory administers a High School Placement Test to eighth grade students who want to be considered for admission to the school. This is a standardized test given through Scholastic Testing Service. The test is administered on the first Saturday of December on campus. In addition to course placement, merit based scholarships are awarded based on the results of this test. Students who apply to Saint Thomas More after the test date will be given an in-house placement test.

Applications for the test are available in October by contacting the Admissions Office. They may also be picked up at the Open House in November. Children who attend Catholic elementary schools in the Diocese of Wilmington will automatically receive applications through their eighth grade teachers.

Costs & Financial Assistance

Our commitment is to provide the most quality-based Catholic education to our students.  Tuition payment enables the St. Thomas More Preparatory community to operate our school program.  Please contact the Admissions office for this year's tuition.   In addition to tuition there are fees for retreats, AP exams, graduation expenses, bus transportation, etc. There is a limited amount of financial aid available.  In order to be considered for financial aid  an application must be submitted to Private School Aid Service (PSAS).  Some parishes also have assisted students with financial aid.  All forms of tuition assistance at Saint Thomas More including parish support require a completed PSAS form. For any questions regarding finances please call our business office. 697-8100.

Shadowing

Students considering application to Saint Thomas More are invited to "shadow" a current student for a day (or part of a day if preferable). We find that the shadow program is an excellent way for a prospective student to begin to get to know us. The shadow program is available to eighth through tenth grade students by contacting the Admissions Office.

Visiting students are expected to dress appropriately (no jeans, sneakers, or tee-shirts), no need to bring lunch, shadows are provided lunch for free from the cafeteria and to have a book or other educational materials with them in case a test is going on in one of the classes they visit. Shadowing students need to provide their own transportation to and from Saint Thomas More.

Transfer Students

Transfer students are considered for acceptance at Saint Thomas More Preparatory only through the first semester of 11th grade unless the family has recently relocated to one of the areas served by Saint Thomas More.

A transfer student is expected to be in good academic standing at his or her current school, to have no significant discipline problems, and to have a good attendance history.

Applications are available by contacting the Admissions Office. In order to ensure that there will be space for a student, applications are due no later than June 1. Late applicants will be considered on a space-available basis.

Please note that financial aid applications are available only after a student's admission application has been received by Saint Thomas More. The deadline for financial aid applications is March 1st; therefore, transfer students who plan to apply for financial assistance need to apply for admission before March 1st.
